This data pack changes the hunger system to work more simlarly to how it worked back in beta and prior versions. The hunger bar is completely removed, and food now restores your health directly instead. This means that you only need to eat if you've taking a bit of damage, instead of being forced to eat every so often. The health gained from eating food is equal to the amount of hunger they give in regular survival, with a few exceptions. Rotten flesh only gives half a heart, golden apples give 8 hearts, and enchanted golden apples give 10 hearts.
Some differences to the beta hunger system include that all food items still use their default stack sizes, eating food still takes a second like it does in modern versions, and you can sprint at all times. The sprinting can be turned of by running /function beta_hunger:toggle_sprint
The effects from food items such as golden apples, spider eyes and chorus fruit are still applied, though the hunger effect has no effect on the actual gameplay.
This data pack was made for the second Flaming Pack Jam (www.planetminecraft.com/jam/flamingpackjam2), to fit the theme of "Forgotten". This reminded my of older versions of Minecraft, so I decided to bring over the old hunger system to see how well it would work in modern Minecraft. Also, I barely had any time during the jam, so I had to go with something small that I could finish in just a few hours.
